Business Brief -- Qualcomm Inc.: Chip Maker Becomes Customer Of Manufacturing Alliance

Qualcomm Inc. said it will use chip-manufacturing services from International Business Machines Corp., Samsung Electronics Co. and Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing Ltd. under an alliance that allows those companies to share production processes. Qualcomm, San Diego, has long relied on IBM and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. to manufacture chips it designs. Qualcomm is the second major customer for what the three chip makers call their Common Platform initiative.
